Michael Embry – 2025 Special Olympic Athlete Award Winner

The winner of the prestigious All Sports Association Special Olympics Athlete of the Year award is Michael Embry. Michael was an early participant in the Special Olympics program in Richardson, Texas, where he played soccer, and where he ultimately qualified for the state games in Houston. 


After relocating to Florida, Michael was presented with many more opportunities to participate in sports.Michael attended Ruckel Middle School, Niceville High School, and Silver Sands School in Fort Walton Beach. While attending school he was given the chance to join the swim team, learn bocce, and compete in track and field events. And he has participated in basketball, corn hole, stand up paddle board, and his all-time favorite, bowling.


A standout athlete, Michael has competed at state level in four of these sports and has spent time with good friends and experienced new adventures.


Michael continues to excel in life and has joined the Liftoff program at Westonwood Ranch in Freeport, where he works to improve his life skills, increase independence, and gain valuable vocational training.
