Stanford University sophomore Nadia Fingall returns to the award podium as the winner of the 2018 Female Collegiate Award for her success on the hardwood. A recipient of the 2016 All Sports Association Female Scholastic Award, this 6-foot-3 forward continues to excel on the court, helping the Stanford Cardinal reach their 13th Final Four last year in Dallas as a freshman against the tournament- winning South Carolina team.
Nadia moved to Palo Alto from Navarre as part of a top-ten incoming freshman class following a stellar career at Choctawhatchee High School, where she lettered for Indians all four years and led the Indians to a 2016 Class 6A state Final Four semifinal appearance as well as an Elite Eight appearance the year prior. “ Strong and athletic in the paint; pounds glass, scores in traffic with interior footwork…among the elite interior prospects in the class of 2016” was how ESPN described her play during the 2015 Nike Invitationals.
As a senior at Choctaw, she was labeled the seventh-best forward prospect in the country and 27th best player in the country—no one in Florida ranked higher. A 2016 McDonald’s All-American, she also earned a spot as a state finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman and was named “ Miss Basketball” by the Florida Dairy Farmers high school sports program as the top player in the state. She graduated Choctaw in 2016 summa sum laude with 4.6 GPA and received an International Baccalaureate diploma.
With a star-studded line-up at Stanford, surely this freshman’s playing time would be limited last spring. However, she played in 36 games—including 17 conference games—in 2017, starting eight of them. She shot 50.8% from the floor, fifth-best in the conference among freshmen players. She pulled down at least five rebounds in nine of her games and scored in double-figures on six occasions, including games against Wichita State, Oregon State, Arizona and George Washington, as well as her career-high 14 against California State University—Northridge. Twenty games into her sophomore season (through1/ 21/ 18), she has played in all but one. She is averaging 12.1 minutes per game and has recorded 65 rebounds, 8 blocks, and 10 steals.
Nadia aspires to play in the WNBA following her collegiate career. An avid reader, she is the daughter of Sydonneand Andrew Fingall and has four younger siblings, Andrew Zane, Aysia, Alysia, and Morghan. Nadia embodies an uncompromising work ethic in everything she sets out to accomplish. We are proud to welcome back Nadia Fingall as our 2018 Female Collegiate Award winner. By L.
