Tyler Cohen of Fort Walton Beach High School is the All Sports Association selection for the 2016 Male Scholastic Award. He is a native Floridian that is dedicated to athletics and academics. Tyler’s passion for golf began as a toddler when he held his first golf club and began putting on the beautiful green course.

Tyler has demonstrated academic and athletic excellence earning a 4.43 weighted grade point average and lettering all four years of high school in the sport of golf.  Tyler’s athleticism is also displayed in his participation outside of school on a club baseball program competing against various players across the state.  During his participation on the Niceville Youth Baseball program, he earned the Eagle award.  This award was given to the player “who put the team goals ahead of his own while displaying a winning attitude on and off the field.”

His perseverance is evident in his daily schedule which includes a curriculum that saw him complete eight Advanced Placement courses, fourteen honor courses and two AICE courses.  Tyler reveres honesty, practices respect, and inspires his peers.  He loves learning and immerses his talents in our academic and athletic programs.  Tyler was selected as Captain of the Fort Walton Beach High School golf team for his outstanding academic and athletic talents.

Tyler knows the value of diligence and work ethic.  He understands the dedication and preparation of being a great scholar-athlete.  His sophomore and junior year, he was selected for the All Area Northwest Florida Award and competed in the Florida State Junior Team Championships in 2012 and 2013.  Tyler was ranked in the top position on the Vikings golf team, earning placements and qualifications for numerous tournaments and district, regional, and state golf championships.  As a senior, Tyler helped Fort Walton Beach High school’s golf team win 3rd out of 16 teams at the FHSAA State tournament.   He has traveled across the United States competing, training, and learning the sport of golf.  His golf performance has been recognized in magazines, newspapers, and in the local news for his outstanding performance and efforts.

Tyler was recently selected as the FWB High School Wendy Heisman winner for his athletic and academic accomplishments.  He has been a Viking Scholar every year for maintaining above a 4.0+ grade point average.  He is an AP Scholar for his outstanding test scores, member of the National Honor Society, and was voted Northwest Florida Golf Player of the Year for 2014.   Recently, Tyler was selected by the faculty of Fort Walton Beach High School to the school’s Hall of Fame.

He donates hours of his time in our community.  He is a mentor and instructor for the First Tee golf program teaching younger children about the sport of golf.  He is a leader in our Christmas Connections program helping raise money to make sure families in need have food, clothing, and Christmas presents during the holiday season.  He devotes many hours in the Destiny Worship Center Youth Group helping with various community service projects.  He has been a Randy Sparks Golf Pro Assistant for the past three years helping teach and mentor future golfers.   He participates in mission trips helping at orphanages, attends church retreats and is an assistant to Youth Pastor at his church.

After high school, he would like to major in Business Administration and play golf at the collegiate level. Tyler has accepted a scholarship offer from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee and will be part of their golf program. He plans to major in Business Administration and continue giving back to the community.

Tyler is the son of Kim and Cliff Cohen who are big supporters of Tyler’s goals and aspirations. He has a one younger sister, Sophie, who is 13 and plays competitive tennis.  The family resides in Destin, Florida.
