The winner of the prestigious All Sports Association Special Olympics athlete of the year award is Shane Patty. This follows his recent selection as the Area 1 (Northwest Florida Region) Special Olympics athlete of the year for 2023.
With an incredibly diverse background in athletics, Shane been a powerhouse for the last five years in Florida, and has excelled in softball, track and field, and golf. His hobbies include running, video games, basketball, and singing in the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale. Rumor has it that he supervises his dad’s kayaking, hiking, and cycling as well!
Born in Crestview, this Okaloosa County native has distinguished himself as an athlete, a choral talent, and a scholar. He attended Valparaiso Elementary, Lewis Middle School, and Niceville High School where he was involved in chorus, cross country, and track and field. Leaving no challenge unanswered, Shane attended Northwest Florida State and received his Associate of Arts degree while continuing to shine in chorus. He is currently attending the University of West Florida and is pursuing his communications degree. And, he’s continuing to share his choral talent in the community.
